“I feel comfortable in my own skin” / “I’m jumping out of my skin” – these expressions form the core of the performance “kailis”, inviting reflection on bodily identity, transformation, and the subtle shifts between states of being.
The piece explores the meaning of movement, not by seeking rational explanations, but by empowering intuition. Through movement, it attempts to uncover what themes lie within our bodies and what often lingers in our thoughts. It's an invitation for the audience to observe not through intellect, but through sensation – as if forming a personal psychological reflection.
In a rational, structured world, intuition is often pushed aside. Yet here, movement becomes the central figure – guiding, sensing, mapping out what we experience, what we remember, and what remains within us.
The body holds personal and collective memories that, in this piece, begin to move, to breathe, to take shape. The motif of crocheting appears not just as a visual element, but as a method – a rhythm, a way to self-soothe, an instinctive act that turns uncertainty into something tangible.
“Kailis” doesn’t offer answers. It simply offers a space – to be, to observe, to listen. And perhaps – to remember what the body has always known.
About Gabrielle:
Gabrielle Emily Aidulis began her 2015 season dancing with Kaunas Dance Theatre Aura. Later, seeking to expand her knowledge abroad, she enrolled at ArtEZ University of the Arts, where she earned a bachelor's degree as a Dancer/Maker in 2020 and completed an internship with choreographer Ann Van den Broek at the company WArd/waRD.
Since then, Gabrielle has been working as a freelance dancer and choreographer, creating her own works and performing in the productions of other choreographers. She closely collaborates with German choreographer Jonas Frey, co-creating urban dance performances. She also explores the synthesis of house dance and ballet with choreographer and dancer Joseph Simon.
In her creative work, she seeks unusual forms of movement that transcend conventional stylistic boundaries, and she develops her pieces through experimentation with abstraction. Her creations invite the audience to interpret the works through their personal experiences, aiming to evoke emotional responses, spark the imagination, and offer a release from reality.
