NIEKUR, BET NE ČIA

NOWHERE, BUT NOR HERE

Duration 50 min.

Premiered 2022

I think, I imagine, I feel, therefore I am. But no thought or feeling is final. Living in a world of constant change, each of us sometimes must pause and re-evaluate what we think, imagine and feel, and at the same time re-experience our limits and embark on the search for the true "I".

In the center of the dance performance “Nowhere, but not here” is a person and his daily transformations. The play examines the limitations of human nature and the immeasurable desire to know oneself and the world. It is a performance about the search for authenticity, creativity and inner self.

A performance inspired by paintings

In the performance, Nuepiko members draw inspiration from the canvases of the Irish painter Francis Bacon. The artist, a chronicler of the Second World War, famous for his unique resolution, depicted mutilated, deformed human bodies, faces distorted by pain and fear in his works.

The uncomfortable confrontation with the dark side of humanity and the motif of the "glazed" person, which is often repeated in the painter's canvases, become the leading line of the performance “Nowhere, but not here”.

"First of all, we understand the performance as a visual work, we aim to speak in images and metaphors," shares the thoughts of one of the troupe's founders, winner of the "Golden Stage Cross" Marius Pinigis.

For the audience, it is an invitation to meet yourself

“Nowhere, but not here” was inspired by the existential anxiety of today's society. In the face of the pandemic, war and other social challenges, there is a feeling that we are living "on the edge." In these difficult situations, many of us must rethink our daily social roles, to meet a side of ourselves that is usually invisible.

This is a performance about us and our society, and a kind of search for one's own "I".

Reviews

The performance "Nowhere, but not here" is a surreal, light and pleasant interpretation of the human inner world, its depth and mechanisms. It spreads slowly, deceptively and imperceptibly, drawing it into phantasmagoric, somehow inexplicably beautiful pictures. As in Bacon's works, here the image of a person is more real than himself.
